A gas can stick to a solid. This is called adsorption. Herbert Freundlich studied this in 1909.

He looked at how much gas sticks to a solid. He found that gas pressure changes how much sticks. More pressure can mean more gas sticks.

This also works with liquids. He used coal in his tests. He studied different types of acids too. It is a way to see how things stick together.

This rule works well at low pressure. But it fails when pressure gets too high. At high pressure, the sticking stops changing. It is fun to see how things work.
