Fredric Wertham was a famous doctor. He was a psychiatrist. This is a doctor who studies the mind. He was born in Germany in 1895. He later moved to the United States.

Wertham did many important things. He helped treat poor patients in New York. His work even helped change laws about school segregation. This means he helped end rules that kept Black and white students apart.

But most people know him for his views on comic books. In 1954, he wrote a book called "Seduction of the Innocent." He claimed that violent comic books made children act like criminals. He spoke to the government about this. His ideas led to a group called the Comics Code Authority. This group checked comic books to make sure they were safe for kids. They even banned certain words like "terror."

Later, other experts studied his work. They found that his facts were not always true. They said he changed some information to fit his ideas. Even so, his life changed how we think about media and children. He died in 1981 at the age of 86.
