Alfred Henry Heineken was a very important businessman from the Netherlands. He was born in Amsterdam on 4 November 1923. His grandfather, Gerard Adriaan Heineken, started the Heineken International brewery in 1864. Freddy grew up in a family with a big history in making drinks. He eventually became the leader of this famous company. He served as the CEO and chairman from 1971 until 1989.

Freddy worked hard to change how the company was run. He joined the company on 1 June 1941. At that time, his family did not own the brewery anymore. He bought back stock to help his family regain control. He created the Heineken Holding to own 50.005% of the main company. He also held a majority stake in that holding group. Because of his work, the brand became famous all over the world.

In 1983, a very serious event happened to Freddy. He and his driver, Ab Doderer, were kidnapped. This was a scary time for everyone involved. They were released after a ransom of 35 million Dutch guilders was paid. This amount was about 15,800,000 euros. Five men were responsible for the kidnapping. They were eventually caught and sent to prison.

Many people have told the story of this kidnapping in movies. One film from 2011 is called The Heineken Kidnapping. Another film from 2015 is called Kidnapping Freddy Heineken. In the second film, the actor Anthony Hopkins plays the role of Freddy. These movies help people remember the big events of his life. They show how much his story surprised the world.

Freddy lived a long life with many changes. He married Lucille Cummins, who came from a family of whiskey distillers in Kentucky. He was also a member of the People's Party for Freedom and Democracy. In his later years, he had some health struggles. He died from pneumonia on 3 January 2002. He was 78 years old when he passed away at home in Noordwijk. His daughter, Charlene de Carvalho-Heineken, inherited his large fortune.
