Many of his songs are still played by singers today. He also wrote music for a famous singer named Richard Tauber. They worked together on many projects between 1925 and 1934.

Lehár's life as a musician followed many different paths. He first studied the violin at the Prague Conservatory. Even though he loved composing, his teachers pushed him to finish his violin degree.

After he graduated in 1888, he worked as an assistant bandmaster in his father's army band. He later became the youngest bandmaster in the Austro-Hungarian Army at Losonc. He even served in the navy as a conductor at Pola. Eventually, he became a conductor at the historic Vienna Theater an der Wien in 1902.

Lehár was born on April 30, 1870, in Komárom.

This place is now called Komárno in Slovakia. He was the eldest son of Franz Lehar Sr. and Christine Neubrandt. His father was an Austrian bandmaster for the army. Growing up, Lehár spoke only Hungarian until he was 12 years old. He later added a special mark to his name to show the right way to say it. He spent much of his later life in Vienna and Bad Ischl.

His music reached many people through different ways. In 1908, a company called Deutsche Grammophon recorded his music. Later, in 1947, he made recordings using a new high-quality way to capture sound. These recordings were very clear for that time. He also formed his own publishing house called Glocken-Verlag in 1935. This helped him keep control over how his music was performed. Even today, his music can be found on CDs and digital records.

Lehár lived through a very difficult and serious time in history. He worked during the era of the Nazi regime in Germany. This was a hard period because many of his friends and workers were Jewish. Lehár tried to help people he knew during this time.
