Pure fluorite is clear and see-through. But tiny bits of other things inside change its color. These bits are called impurities. Because of this, fluorite can be almost any color. It has every color of the rainbow!

Many fluorite crystals grow in a cube shape. Some are very large. One giant crystal was a cube. It weighed about 16 tonnes!

Fluorite can also do something amazing. It can glow under special light. This glow is called fluorescence.

When ultraviolet light hits the stone, it lets out visible light. It might glow blue, red, or green. This happens because of those tiny impurities inside.

People use fluorite for many jobs. It helps make steel by acting as a flux. A flux is a substance that helps materials melt more easily. It is also used to make glass and camera lenses. High-grade fluorite helps make strong acids too. This makes it very useful for making many chemicals.
