A flail is a tool for farms.

It has a handle and a stick. A rope joins them together. The stick can swing freely.

Farmers use it to get food. They swing the tool at grain. This breaks the outer shells. The grain then falls out.

Some people use flails for fighting. They can be much stronger. Some even have metal spikes.

Machines do this work now. But some people still use flails. They use them for wild rice.

It is a very useful tool.
