To show web pages, Firefox uses a special engine called Gecko. An engine is the part of the software that does the heavy work. It follows web standards to make sure sites look right.

Some versions of Firefox use different tools to work. For example, the iOS version uses the WebKit engine instead of Gecko. This happens because of specific rules for Apple devices. Firefox also uses the SpiderMonkey engine to run JavaScript code. This helps make websites interactive and fun to use.

The history of Firefox began with a group of people in 1998. They were part of the Mozilla community, which came from Netscape.
