Firebrats need warmth and moisture to live well. They like temperatures between 36 and 39 °C. You can often find them near heat sources. This includes places like boilers or furnaces. Their outer skin is called an exoskeleton. This skin helps them manage water. It can hold water in or let it out. This helps them live in many kinds of air.

The pearly white eggs hatch in 12 to 13 days. The babies are called nymphs. They look like adults but are waxy white. They can grow up in 2 to 4 months.

Scientists have studied these bugs for a long time. People used to think they used pheromones to live together. Pheromones are scents that insects use to talk. Now, modern research suggests something else. It seems microbes and fungi help them stay together. These are found in the feces of other firebrats. Scientists also study how their eggs grow. They look at a stage called meiosis in the ovaries. This helps us learn how they work.
