Based in Maranello, Italy, the company focuses on high-performance vehicles. It maintains a brand image built on racing heritage, luxury, and exclusivity. This exclusivity means the brand is highly sought after by a global elite. As of May 2023, Ferrari was one of the world's largest car manufacturers by market capitalization. Its value was approximately US$85.5 billion.

The company produces a wide range of modern vehicles. This includes several supercars and grand tourers. They also produce one SUV for their customers. Ferrari is currently working on its first fully electric model.

Historically, the manufacturing process was very hands-on. In the early 1960s, everything in the production line was handmade by machinists. These workers followed technical drawings with extreme precision.

Today, the company uses industrial robots to assist with much of this work.

The history of Ferrari began with Enzo Ferrari.

He first founded a racing team called Scuderia Ferrari in 1929. Originally, this team was intended to service amateur racers. Because Alfa Romeo withdrew from racing in 1933, Scuderia Ferrari became their unofficial representative. Enzo used his connections to supply racing cars from Alfa Romeo. After disagreements with management, Enzo left in 1939 to start his own company. He initially named it Auto Avio Costruzioni. Due to a noncompete agreement, he could not use the Ferrari name for four years. He finally adopted the current name in 1945.

Ferrari's racing success helped build its reputation as a high-quality automaker. The company's first car, the 125 S, won many races in 1947.

This car featured a new V12 engine. This engine type would power many subsequent Ferraris. In the 1950s and 1960s, Ferrari produced several famous families of cars. These included the America, Monza, and 250 series. The 250 GT Coupé, starting in 1958, was the company's first series-produced car. Many cars from this era are now among the most expensive ever sold at auction.

Scuderia Ferrari is the racing team for the company. It is the single oldest and most successful team in Formula One history. The team has competed in Grand Prix events since 1929. Since 1952, Scuderia Ferrari has fielded fifteen champion drivers. They have also won sixteen Constructors' Championships.

The team holds many records for race victories, podiums, and pole positions. One of their most dominant eras occurred in the 2000s. During this time, driver Michael Schumacher won five consecutive drivers' titles from 2000 to 2004. This was accompanied by six consecutive constructors' titles starting in 1999.

Ferrari also achieved great success in sports car racing. They participated in famous races like the Mille Miglia and the Targa Florio. They also found much success at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. By 1957, Ferrari had already won three World Sportscar Championships. They also won the 24 Hours of Le Mans twice by that time.

In the 1960s, they won the 2000GT class three times in a row. Their winning streak at Le Mans lasted for six consecutive years. This streak was eventually broken by Ford in 1966.

The company has changed hands and structures many times. Ferrari became a public company in 1960. From 1963 to 2014, it was a subsidiary of Fiat S.p.A. After Enzo Ferrari died in 1988, Fiat expanded its stake to 90%. Later, the company was spun off from Fiat Chrysler Automobiles in 2016. Today, significant ownership is held by Piero Ferrari and Exor N.V. Fans of the team, known as the Tifosi, remain incredibly loyal to the brand.
