He was the head chef at a restaurant called elBulli in Roses. He wanted to surprise and delight every person who ate there. He called his style "deconstructed cuisine." This means he takes a well-known dish and changes its shape or temperature. The food looks very different from the original, but it keeps its true essence. He wanted to create unexpected contrasts of flavor and texture. To him, eating was more than just a meal.

Adrià is famous for making things like culinary foam.

He makes these light bubbles using flavored liquids and special additives like lecithin. He uses tools like an immersion blender or a siphon bottle to add air. Sometimes he even uses liquid nitrogen or freeze-drying to change the texture. He has even found ways to turn almonds into cheese. He can also turn asparagus into bread using natural ingredients. These methods allow the flavors to stay very intense and strong.

His career started in 1980 as a dishwasher at a hotel.

At age 19, he served as a cook during his military service. He joined the staff at elBulli as a line cook in 1984. Just eighteen months later, he became the head chef. In 1994, he and his partner sold part of the business to Miquel Horta. This money helped him expand his kitchen and try new things. He worked hard in a workshop called elBulliTaller to perfect his recipes.

ElBulli was one of the best restaurants in the entire world. It held three Michelin stars and won first place in a top list five times. He held that number one spot in 2002, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, and 2009. The restaurant was only open for six months each year. He closed the restaurant for good on July 30, 2011. Later, a museum called elBulli1846 opened to keep his ideas alive. He also wrote many cookbooks, such as "A Day at El Bulli."

Some people believe that Adrià's cooking is a new form of art. In 2007, he was invited to join documenta, which is like the Olympics for artists. He felt like an intruder because he was a cook. However, organizers said his new techniques were as hard as painting. He compared a night at his restaurant to a night at the theater. He wanted the whole experience to be a special event. Even though some people argued about his methods, his work changed the world of food.
