Fei grew up in a family that valued school. He went to many great universities. He even studied in London. He learned how parts of a community work together. He wrote a book called Peasant Life in China. This book was about life in small villages.

Life was not always easy for Fei. In the 1950s, the government stopped teaching sociology. Fei was treated unfairly for many years. He could not teach or write. He felt these years were wasted.

Later, things changed for the better. Fei was allowed to teach again. He helped build new schools for students. He also helped people in rural areas. His ideas helped many villagers earn more money.
