A man named Halim el Roumi gave her the stage name Fairuz. This name is the Arabic word for "turquoise." Later, she began working with the Rahbani brothers, Assi and Mansour. They helped her create a brand new style of music. They moved away from long, thirty-minute songs. Instead, they made shorter three-minute songs that told stories in the Lebanese dialect.

Her career started to grow quickly in the 1950s. In 1952, she released her first big hit called "Itab."
