Fabio's career started in a very lucky way. When he was 14, a famous photographer named Oliviero Toscani saw him at a gym in Milan. The photographer told him he should model. This led to a big job and a fast career. Later, Fabio moved to the United States at age 19. He walked into the Ford modeling agency without an appointment. He walked out with a contract just 48 hours after arriving. This contract was worth $150,000, which was more than many top models earned then.

His path to fame involved a lot of physical activity. As a teenager, he was a ski-racing champion in Milan. However, he broke his leg while skiing a slalom course. His doctor told him to try weight lifting for physical therapy. Fabio fell in love with training and became a very muscular model. He often worked 17 or 18 hours a day. He would sometimes do 15 or 16 book cover photoshoots in a single day. He also enjoyed riding motorcycles and dirt bikes.

Fabio has done many different jobs in media. He appeared in movies like "The Exorcist III" and "Spy Hard." He also had a funny role in the movie "Zoolander."
