An exercise ball is a large, soft ball.

It is made of elastic material. The ball is filled with air. You can change the air pressure using a valve. This lets you fill the ball or let air out. People call these balls by many names. Some call them stability balls or yoga balls.

These balls help people stay strong. A big benefit is that the ball is not flat. It is an unstable surface. This means your body must work to stay balanced. This helps your core muscles, like your back and stomach, work harder.

This can help your body resist injury.

These balls have a long history. An Italian man named Aquilino Cosani made the Swiss Ball in 1963. He found a way to make large plastic balls. Later, doctors used them for therapy. They used them to help babies and adults move better.

People even use balls for fun and sports. In a game called Treibball, people use eight balls. In that sport, the balls are called "rolling sheep." A man named Neil Whyte even set world records with them. He jumped across ten balls very fast!
