She is most famously associated with the genre of sung poetry. This art form involves setting written poems to music. Demarczyk did not just sing these words; she performed them with intense dramatic expression. Because of her unique stage presence, people in Poland often called her "the Dark Angel." During the 1960s, her talent was so great that people compared her to the legendary French singer Édith Piaf.

Her performance style was a complex blend of two different disciplines. She was a graduate of a conservatory, where she studied the piano. She also graduated from the Ludwik Solski Academy for the Dramatic Arts. This training allowed her to combine vocal art with theatrical acting. Instead of simple songs, she created short, intense musical dramas. She used her voice and her body to interpret the deep meanings found in poetry. This made her work much more demanding than standard popular music.

Demarczyk's repertoire drew from a wide variety of literary sources. She performed works by "classical" poets like Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and Rainer Maria Rilke. She also sang poems by international writers such as Osip Mandelstam and Marina Tsvetaeva. In her own country, she interpreted the works of Polish poets like Julian Tuwim and Krzysztof Kamil Baczyński. She even included avant-garde writers like Miron Białoszewski. By choosing such diverse texts, she brought high literature to the musical stage.

Her professional journey began in 1961 at a student cabaret called Cyrulik. After one year, she joined the famous Piwnica pod Baranami cabaret. It was there that she met the composer Zygmunt Konieczny. They collaborated closely for four years, which helped shape her early career. Her major breakthrough occurred in 1963 at the National Festival of Polish Song in Opole. She received awards for her performances of "Karuzela z madonnami," "Taki pejzaż," and "Czarne anioły." That same year, Polish journalists named her the best artist of 1963.

Demarczyk achieved significant commercial success and international recognition. In 1967, she released her first album, *Ewa Demarczyk śpiewa piosenki Zygmunta Koniecznego*. This album was a major success and was eventually certified platinum for selling over 100,000 copies. Her fame extended far beyond Poland. She performed at the famous Olympia in Paris and at a United Nations anniversary ceremony. She also traveled to many countries, including Brazil, Mexico, the United States, and Australia. She played in iconic venues like Carnegie Hall in New York and the Chicago Theatre.

Her music also had a massive impact in Russia. In 1974, she released an album that included four Russian-language versions of her hits. This album was issued by the state-owned label Melodiya. It became an enormous success, selling several million copies. Throughout her career, she earned many prestigious honors. She received the Order of Polonia Restituta and the French Legion of Honour. She was also awarded the Gold Fryderyk Award for Lifetime Achievements in 2010.

In the later years of her life, Demarczyk remained active in the arts. In the mid-1980s, she founded her own theatre in Kraków. Although the theatre faced formal difficulties and was eventually shut down, it still generated significant interest. She continued to perform live until the late 1990s. Her final concert took place on November 8, 1999, at the Grand Theatre in Poznań. Following that performance, she withdrew completely from public life. She died on August 14, 2020, at the age of 79.
