Many people call him "the Real Deal." He is known for being a very strong and skilled fighter. Holyfield achieved something very rare in the sport. He was the only boxer to win undisputed championships in two different weight classes during the "three-belt era." This means he held the top titles from the WBA, WBC, and IBF at the same time. He did this in the cruiserweight division and later in the heavyweight division. These big wins made him a legend in the boxing world.

His journey in boxing started when he was only seven years old. He won a tournament at the Boys Club early on. By age 13, he was competing in the Junior Olympics. He grew a lot during his teenage years. When he graduated high school in 1980, he was quite small. By age 21, he had grown to 6 feet 2 inches tall. He also grew much heavier as he became an adult. This growth helped him move into bigger weight classes for professional fights.

Holyfield had a very successful amateur career before turning pro. In 1984, he represented the United States at the Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. He won a bronze medal during those games. He also won a silver medal at the 1983 Pan American Games in Venezuela. When he turned professional at age 21, he moved up to the cruiserweight division. In 1986, he defeated Dwight Muhammad Qawi to win his first world title. This was a narrow 15-round decision that made him a champion.

He later moved up to the heavyweight division in 1988. In 1990, he defeated Buster Douglas to become the undisputed heavyweight champion. He won that fight by a knockout in the third round. Holyfield defended his title against many famous fighters. He beat George Foreman in a match called the "Battle for the Ages." He also had famous fights against Mike Tyson. In 1996, Holyfield won a huge match against Tyson that was called the "Upset of the Year."

In 2015, he was inducted into the International Sports Hall of Fame. Many experts rank him as one of the greatest fighters ever. Some people even say he was the greatest cruiserweight of all time. His many wins and long career show why he is so respected in sports history.
