She served as the First Lady of Argentina from June 1946 until her death in 1952. Born María Eva Duarte on May 7, 1919, she rose from extreme poverty to immense national power. She became a symbol of hope for the working class. Her influence shaped the Peronist movement and the lives of many Argentines.

Eva's early life was defined by hardship in the rural Pampas region. She was born in Los Toldos, a village known for its desolation and poverty. Her father, Juan Duarte, was a wealthy rancher with a separate legal family. After he left, Eva's mother, Juana Ibarguren, struggled to support the children. They lived in a one-room apartment in Junín to manage the rent. To survive, the family worked as cooks in local estancias. During this time, Eva participated in school plays and enjoyed the cinema. These experiences fueled her dream of becoming a famous actress.

At age 15, Eva moved to Buenos Aires to pursue acting.

She faced many challenges without formal education or social connections. However, she eventually found success in theater, radio, and film. By 1942, she was a highly successful radio actress. She earned five to six thousand pesos a month, which was a large sum. She played historical roles, such as Elizabeth I of England. She even became a co-owner of a radio company. This financial stability allowed her to move to the exclusive Recoleta neighborhood.

Eva's life changed significantly on January 22, 1944. She met Colonel Juan Perón at a charity gala at Luna Park Stadium.

The event was a fundraiser for victims of an earthquake in San Juan. The two married in 1945. When Juan Perón was elected President in June 1946, Eva entered the political world. She did not have prior interest in politics, but she quickly became a powerful leader. She worked closely with trade unions to advocate for labor rights.

Eva Perón used her position to launch massive social and political programs. She founded the Eva Perón Foundation to provide charitable aid.

She also championed women's suffrage, helping women gain the right to vote. To organize women politically, she founded the Female Peronist Party. She was a champion for the "descamisados," or "shirtless ones." This term described the low-income and working-class people who supported Peronism. Her work in the Ministries of Labor and Health made her a central figure in the nation.

In 1951, Eva announced her candidacy for the office of Vice President. She had massive support from the Peronist political base. However, she faced strong opposition from the military and the bourgeoisie.

Her declining health also made her candidacy difficult. She was eventually forced to withdraw from the race. Despite this, her influence remained immense. Even as she struggled with illness, she continued to be a symbol of the movement.

Eva Perón died of cancer on July 26, 1952, at age 33.

Her legacy continues to impact Argentine politics and international popular culture today.
