People often call them German-style games. These games focus on economic competition and smart planning. They are different from American-style games that use more luck and conflict. In a Eurogame, players do not get eliminated from the game. This means everyone can keep playing until the very end.

Reiner Knizia is a very popular designer who uses math in his games. He created titles like Amun-Re and Modern Art. Other designers like Uwe Rosenberg made complex games like Agricola in 2007. Helge Ostertag and Jens Drögemüller made Terra Mystica in 2012. These newer games are often called "expert games" because they are deep. They offer many paths to victory for serious players.

Eurogames use themes to make the gameplay feel real.

In Carcassonne, you build a medieval landscape with walled cities. In Puerto Rico, you develop plantations on an island. Some games, like Power Grid, let you run a power company. Even though they have themes, the rules and mechanics are the most important part. Today, fans gather at huge events like Essen Spiel. In 2024, 204,000 people attended that big convention in Germany.
