Euharamiyida is a name for a group of early mammals or mammal-like creatures. They are also known by the scientific name Eleutherodontida. These animals lived during the Middle Jurassic and the Early Cretaceous periods. Most of them lived in the region known as Eurasia. Some researchers believe they may have lived in North America as well. Studying these creatures helps scientists understand how early mammals changed over time.

We can learn a lot about how these animals lived by studying their teeth. The specific shape of their teeth provides clues about their diet. Most euharamiyidans were herbivorous, meaning they primarily ate plants. Some members of the group were omnivorous, which means they ate both plants and other things. This variety in diet shows how they filled different roles in their ancient environments.

Many euharamiyidans were arboreal, which means they lived in trees. This lifestyle required special physical abilities to move through branches. Some species were even capable of gliding through the air. They were very similar to modern animals like flying squirrels or colugos. One such animal was named Shenshou, which lived in China during the Middle Jurassic.

Scientists are still debating exactly where these animals fit on the tree of life. Their position is a subject of much discussion in biology. Some studies suggest they are part of a group called Allotheria. If this is true, they would be closely related to multituberculates. Other researchers believe they belong to a broader group called Mammaliaformes. This would make them stem-group mammals rather than crown group mammals.

Another major debate involves their relationship to the haramiyids. The haramiyids were animals that lived during the Late Triassic. Examples of these older animals include Haramiyavia and Thomasia. It is currently disputed whether euharamiyidans and haramiyids are actually related. Some scientific studies have recovered these two groups as being completely unrelated. This uncertainty makes the study of their evolution very complex.

There are many different types of taxa, or groups, within the euharamiyida. One group is called Arboroharamiyidae, which includes animals like Vilevolodon and Xianshou. Another group is the Shenshouidae, which includes the animal Shenshou. Other known taxa include Cryoharamiya, Maiopatagium, Millosodon, and Sharypovoia. There are also names like Sineleutherus, Woodeatonia, and Millosodon. Scientists use these names to organize the many different species discovered.

Other classifications include the Kermockodontidae, which contains Kermackodon and Butlerodon. Some studies even consider these animals to be multituberculates. Other potential groups mentioned in research include Hahnodontidae, Megaconus, and Gondwanatheria. These various names represent the effort to map out the history of early mammals. By studying these groups, we see how diverse early mammal-like life could be.
