These islands sit in the Peter the Great Gulf. This gulf is in the Sea of Japan. They are near the coast of Russia. The islands are part of the city of Vladivostok.

There are five large islands in the group. These are Russky, Popov, Rikord, Reyneke, and Shkot. There are also many smaller islands and rocks.

The islands formed a long time ago. This happened when sea levels rose. Most of the islands have low mountains.

The weather has a monsoonal climate. This means the rain falls mostly in late summer. Winters are dry and windy.

Many trees grow on the islands. You can see Amur lime and Chinese ash. Some islands have thick forests. Other spots have plants on cliffs.

In the water, you can find mussels. These are small sea animals with shells.

In 1852, a French ship reached this area. They named the islands for Empress Eugénie. She was the wife of Napoleon III. The name was used again in 1994.
