Most scholars believe these people lived in Italy for a very long time. They did not move there from other lands.

Etruscan cities grew very strong. At their peak, they ruled much of central Italy.

Rich families made money through trade. They traded with people from Greece and the north. These families put fine items in large tombs.

The Etruscans had their own way of writing. They used an alphabet based on Greek letters.

However, we do not fully understand their language today. This makes it hard to know everything about them. Later, the people of Rome became very powerful. Rome fought wars against the Etruscans. Eventually, Rome took over their lands. By 27 BC, the Etruscans were part of the Roman Empire.
