This wolf looks a bit like a coyote. It has red fur and white markings. Its head is very long and narrow. This shape helps the wolf hunt. It is a specialized feeder. This means it mostly eats certain animals. It hunts rodents, which are small animals like rats.

There are not many of these wolves left. In 2011, experts counted about 360 to 440 adults. They live in seven different mountain areas. Most of them live in the Bale Mountains. The wolves face many dangers. They can get sick from diseases carried by dogs. They also lose their homes as people move into the mountains. Groups like the Ethiopian Wolf Conservation Programme work hard to help them. They use vaccines to keep the wolves healthy.
