Haeckel found many new species. He named nearly 700 tiny sea creatures called radiolarians. He also helped create new science words. One word he made was ecology. Ecology is the study of how living things relate to their world.

Haeckel wanted to show how all life is related. He drew a map called a tree of life.

This map showed how different groups of animals grew from the same early forms. He also had a theory about how babies grow. He thought the way an animal grows as a baby shows its history. We now know this part of his idea was wrong. He also held views on race that were harmful. However, his art and his work on life's connections are still very famous.
