This spot connects the Channel to the North Sea.

Many people live near the water. The English coast has more people than the French coast. People there speak English and French.

On a clear day, you can see the white cliffs of Dover from France.

This sea is very important for ships. It is the busiest shipping area in the world. Because it is so busy, ships must be careful. Accidents can cause pollution in the water.

The Channel also helps keep land safe. It acted as a natural defense for the United Kingdom. This helped during big wars like the Second World War.

There are also islands in the sea. Some notable ones are the Isle of Wight and the Channel Islands. The French coast has many small islands too, like Mont-Saint-Michel.
