Much of this area is a special place. It is part of the Wadden Sea. This sea is a World Heritage Site. This means it is a very important place for nature. Germany has three national parks here to protect it. People love to visit the Wadden Sea for fun. They go mudflat hiking with a guide. This is walking on the wet ground when the tide is out.

The sea is also a busy place for work. Many big ships travel through the bight. They go to ports like Hamburg and Emden. Some ships even use wind power. Large wind farms sit out in the water. They catch the wind to make power. There is also an oil rig in the bight. It is called Mittelplate. It is the only one in Germany.
