It uses three balls. One is red. The other two are cue balls. One player uses a white ball. The other player uses a yellow ball.

Players use a long stick called a cue to hit the balls. They aim to score points in a few ways. A cannon is a shot where your ball hits both other balls. This earns 2 points. You can also earn points by putting balls into pockets. This is called potting. Potting the red ball earns 3 points. Potting the other cue ball earns 2 points.

To start, players do a lag. They hit a ball to see who gets closest to the edge. The winner chooses which ball to use.

This game has a long history. It comes from three older games. One was called the winning game. Another was the losing game. The third was carom billiards. By the year 1800, they all joined to make this game. It is still played today. Many people use snooker tables to practice.
