He was a politician and a music producer. He served as the fifth Prime Minister of Jamaica from 1980 to 1989. He also led the Jamaica Labour Party for many years. People remember him for many different reasons. Some people thought he helped the country grow very much. Other people had very different ideas about his work. He was a person who changed how Jamaica worked.

Before he was a leader, Seaga worked with music. He owned a company called West Indies Records Limited. This company helped many Jamaican artists record their songs. It became the most successful record company in the West Indies. He even helped make a big collection of music called Reggae Golden Jubilee. This collection celebrated fifty years of Jamaican independence. In 1981, he gave Bob Marley a very high honor. This honor is called the Order of Merit. It is for people who do great things in arts or science.

Seaga's political life started when he was quite young. He was born in Boston, Massachusetts, on May 28, 1930. His family moved back to Jamaica when he was a baby. He studied at Harvard University and graduated in 1952. In 1959, he joined the Legislative Council at age 29. This made him the youngest person ever in that group. Later, he was elected to represent West Kingston in 1962. He held that same seat for 43 years in a row. This made him the longest-serving Member of Parliament in the region.

As a leader, Seaga made many big changes. He helped rewrite parts of the Jamaican Constitution. He worked to protect human rights for all people. He also helped build new homes and schools in West Kingston. He turned a place called Back O'Wall into a new area named Tivoli Gardens. When he was Prime Minister, he used new economic rules. He worked with the International Monetary Fund to help the economy. He also had close ties with leaders like Ronald Reagan. These connections helped Jamaica get more aid from the United States.

Because he was such a big leader, people often argued about him. Some people said he saved Jamaica from certain political ideas. Others said his choices made life harder for working people. He faced many hard times and big elections. He stayed in the political world until he retired in 2005. He lived a very long life and saw much change. He died on May 28, 2019. This was also his eighty-ninth birthday. His life showed how one person can shape a whole nation.
