She loves to climb very tall mountains. These peaks are called eight-thousanders. This means they are over 8,000 meters high. She climbed Mount Everest in 2001. That was her first big peak.

Edurne had a very big goal. She wanted to climb all 14 of these giant peaks. On May 17, 2010, she finished her quest. She climbed Shishapangma to reach the top. She became the first woman to climb all 14 peaks. She was also the 21st person to do it.

There was a big debate about this record. A climber named Oh Eun-sun also tried to reach the goal. Some people thought Oh reached the top of Kangchenjunga. But others had a different story. They said bad weather stopped her climb. Later, Oh said she had to stop near the top. This settled the debate. Edurne is the first woman to finish the climb. She has also climbed the seven highest summits on Earth.
