Khil traveled to over 80 different countries to share his music. He even taught singing to other people at a large institute. His life was full of music, from opera to popular songs.

Khil's singing style was very easy to recognize. He performed many different kinds of songs, such as "Blue Cities" and "Moonstone." He was also the first artist to sing songs like "Woodcutters."

In 1976, he recorded a version of a song called "I Am Very Glad, As I Am Finally Returning Back Home." Instead of using words, he used fun vocal sounds. This version of the song did not have a story about a cowboy like the original lyrics did. He used these sounds to make the music feel joyful.

His journey began in a very difficult way during World War II. He was born in Smolensk in 1934 to Anatoly Khil and Yelena Kalugina. During the war, his kindergarten was bombed. This meant he was separated from his mother and sent to a children's home. The home did not have enough food or basic things. Even in this hard time, Khil sang for wounded soldiers in a hospital. He finally reunited with his mother in 1943 when his home city was liberated.

Khil worked very hard to become a professional singer. He graduated from a printing college in 1949 before joining the Leningrad Conservatory. He studied there under teachers named Yevgeny Olkhovsky and Zoya Lodyi. He graduated in 1960 and started singing opera roles like Figaro.

Over the years, he won many important awards. He won the "All Russian Competition for Performers" in 1962. He also received the People's Artist of the RSFSR award in 1974. In 2009, he was given the Order "For Merit to the Fatherland."

In 2010, Khil became a global star because of the internet. A video of his 1976 performance went viral on YouTube. People called the song "Trololo" because of the sounds he made. It became a famous internet meme often called the "Russian Rickroll."
