Ahmad Shah Durrani started a great empire in 1747.

A grand council met near Kandahar to pick a leader. A holy man put grain in Ahmad's hat to crown him. Ahmad then changed his tribal name to Durrani. He became the first king of this new land.

His empire grew very large. It held parts of modern Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Iran. It even reached parts of India.

This group traveled a long way to see the Qing emperor.

After Ahmad died in 1772, his son Timur Shah took over.
