Machines can pull on metal to change its shape.

This is called drawing. A machine pulls the metal through a small hole. This makes the metal long and thin. It can make long wires or tubes.

Sometimes the metal is pulled while it is warm. Other times, it is pulled at room temperature. This is called cold drawing. It makes the metal look bright and smooth.

Making things is a careful job. If you pull too hard, the metal might break. If you do not pull enough, it might wrinkle. It is all about finding the right balance.
