Sharing things fairly is called division.

Divide20by4
Divide20by4

Imagine you have twenty apples. You want to give them to four friends. Each friend gets five apples. The number of apples you start with is the dividend. The number of friends is the divisor. The answer you get is the quotient.

Sometimes, things do not share perfectly. If you have twenty-one apples, one apple is left over. This leftover part is called a remainder. You can also write division as a fraction. This helps you share that last bit fairly. Division is a very useful tool for math.
