Digital buffer

A digital buffer is a small part of an electronic circuit. Its main job is to copy a signal. This helps keep the original signal safe. It does this by acting as a shield.

When a circuit sends a signal, it uses voltage. Some parts use a lot of power. This can change or hurt the first signal. A buffer has high input impedance. This means it draws very little current. It does not disturb the source. The buffer makes its own power for the next part. This keeps the two parts separate.

There are different kinds of buffers. An inverting buffer flips the signal. If the input is high, the output is low. A non-inverting buffer keeps the signal the same.

Some buffers have a control input. You can think of this like a valve. This is called a tri-state buffer. It can turn the signal on or off. When it is off, the output is in a high impedance state. This state is also called Hi-Z. It acts as if the part was removed. This is useful for a bus. A bus is a device that carries data. It lets many parts share one path.
