Your body cannot break it down. This happens because you lack certain enzymes. Enzymes are tools your body uses to digest food. Since you cannot digest fiber, it moves to your large intestine.

There are two main types of fiber. The first type is soluble fiber. This type dissolves in water. It can make you feel full for a longer time. Soluble fiber also helps lower LDL cholesterol. This is a type of fat in your blood. You can find it in oats, beans, and many fruits.

The second type is insoluble fiber. This type does not dissolve in water. It helps your body stay regular. It does this by soaking up water. This makes it easier to go to the bathroom. You can find this in wheat bran and many vegetable skins.
