Many people call it DCM. It is a solvent. A solvent is a liquid that can dissolve other things. This makes it very useful in science.

People use DCM to join plastic parts together. It can even weld some plastics. It was once used to take caffeine out of tea. Now, scientists use other ways to do that.

This liquid can also power a toy called a drinking bird. The bird moves because of how the liquid changes with heat. DCM is also used in holiday bubble lights. These are the tubes that bubble over a lamp.

We must be careful with DCM. It turns into a gas very easily. Breathing it in can make people feel dizzy or sick. It can also hurt your skin. Because of these risks, many countries have new rules. The EPA in the US has even banned many ways to use it. This helps keep workers and people safe.
