People loved watching him because he was so exciting to see. He was even a star in the World Series Cricket competition. His fame helped make the game very popular to watch on television. He remains one of Australia's most well-known sports stars today.

Being a fast bowler is a very hard job. In his early years, Lillee bowled with extreme speed. However, he suffered from stress fractures in his back. This was a painful injury to his spine. He even had to wear a large plaster cast for six weeks.

To get better, he worked with a scientist named Frank Pyke. He also practiced new ways to move his body. He even worked with a sprint champion to improve his running.

Lillee's career began in the 1969–70 season with Western Australia. He made his first big Test debut in the 1970–71 Ashes series. During a match in Perth, he bowled amazingly well against a strong team. He took 8 wickets for only 29 runs in just 7 overs.
