A group called DATA started in London. It began in January 2002. A singer named Bono started it. He worked with Bobby Shriver. They also worked with people from a group called Jubilee 2000. DATA wanted to help Africa. They wanted to make things fair for African people. One goal was debt relief. This means helping countries with money they owe. They also wanted to change trade rules. These rules can be hard on Africa. DATA worked to stop the AIDS sickness. They wanted to help democracy grow. They also wanted leaders to be honest with people. Some people gave money to start the group. This included the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. George Soros and Edward W. Scott also gave money. In 2007, Bono and DATA won a Liberty Medal. This award was for their work on poverty and AIDS. Rock bands like Switchfoot also helped them. In October 2007, DATA joined another group called One. This new group became known as One in 2008.
