Some crimes target the computer itself. These people might use viruses to break a system. They might also use sabotage to stop a network from working. Other crimes use computers as a tool to trick people. This is often called fraud. For example, scammers use phishing. Phishing is sending fake emails to steal private info. Some scammers use a trick called digital arrest. They pretend to be police to steal money.

Other crimes are very serious. Cyberextortion is when hackers demand money to stop an attack. They often use ransomware. This is a type of bad software. It locks your files so you cannot use them. In 2024, many big attacks happened. Some even hurt hospitals. Cyberwarfare is when nations fight using computers. This can happen across many borders. It is hard to catch these criminals. Many work in large, organized groups.
