Cranberry juice

language culture Maturity 5-7 Next article →

Cranberry juice is a bright red drink. It comes from the cranberry fruit. These berries have a very tart taste. Because they are so sour, many juices add sugar. Some juices also mix in other fruit juices. These blends often use apple, pear, or grape juice.

Farmers grow cranberries in places like Canada. One common way to pick them is called wet harvesting. In this method, machines use water to help collect the berries.

The berries are then sent to a plant. There, they are crushed and pressed to make juice.

Many people drink this juice for health reasons. Some think it helps prevent urinary tract infections, or UTIs. This is a type of infection in the body. Scientists are still studying this. Some studies show it might help certain people. Other studies say the evidence is not clear.

Cranberry juice is also very acidic. This means it has a low pH level. This acid can sometimes wear down tooth enamel. Most juice also has vitamin C added to it. This helps keep the juice fresh.
