Cooloola (insect)

life science Maturity 11-13 Next article →

Meet the Cooloola monsters. They are a special group of bugs. They live in Queensland, Australia. These insects stay under the ground. This is called a subterranean life. They live mostly in the soil.

We do not know much about them. They spend most of their time in the dirt. We think they hunt for food there. They likely eat other tiny bugs in the soil.

These bugs look different from their relatives. Most bugs in their group have long feelers. We call these feelers antennae. The Cooloola monster has very short antennae. Their antennae are shorter than their bodies.

There are four known species in this family. One is the dingo monster. Another is the sugarcane monster. There is also Pearson's monster. The last one is the Cooloola monster. The name comes from Cooloola National Park. This is where the first one was found. Scientists study these bugs to learn more.
