Continuous distillation is a way to separate liquids.

This process never stops. A liquid mix flows into a tall tower. The tower is a big, vertical cylinder.

Some towers are 60 meters tall!

Inside, heat makes the liquid boil. This turns parts of the mix into vapor. Vapor is a gas. This gas rises up the tower. The parts that boil easily rise the fastest. They leave from the top. We call these parts the distillate.

Other parts do not boil easily. They stay as liquids. These are the bottoms. They leave from the bottom of the tower.

To make the separation better, towers use trays.

These trays are like flat steps inside. They help the gas and liquid meet. This makes the separation much cleaner.

Many industries use these big towers. Oil refineries use them to separate crude oil. They also use them for food and gas. This way of working is very steady. The flow and heat stay the same. This helps make a good product every time.
