It began in Russia around 1915. Artists like Vladimir Tatlin and Alexander Rodchenko led the way. They did not want art to be just pretty. They wanted it to look like the modern world. This meant using shapes and industrial materials.

These artists wanted their work to help society. They made many things for real life. Some made posters with bright colors and bold letters.

Others designed clothes, like dresses with geometric patterns. They even made designs for stoves and furniture.

Constructivism also changed how movies and plays looked. They used a style called montage. This is a way to join many film clips together. It makes the images feel fast and strong.
