A Spanish composer named Joaquín Rodrigo wrote it in 1939. He was inspired by the Royal Palace of Aranjuez. This palace has beautiful gardens. Rodrigo wanted his music to sound like nature. He said it captures the scent of flowers and the sound of birds.

The music has three parts, or movements. The first part is fast and full of life. The second part is the most famous. It is slow and quiet. It feels like a sad or regretful song. The third part sounds like a fancy dance.

Many artists have played this music. A jazz player named Miles Davis even used its melody. At first, Rodrigo was upset because the jazz group did not ask to use it. Later, he changed his mind. He saw that the jazz version helped more people hear his work. Today, people play it on many instruments. Some even play it on the harp or the bass. It remains a very special part of Spanish music.
