He was born in 1893 in Linares, Spain. Segovia helped make the guitar a popular instrument for big concerts. Before his time, many guitarists played with a soft sound. This made it hard to fill large halls. Segovia changed how people played to fix this. He used his nails to pluck the strings.

This method gave the guitar a loud and rich sound. He also used nylon strings instead of older catgut strings. This helped the instrument sound more stable.

Segovia worked with many great composers. They wrote new music just for him. These pieces included sonatas and concertos. He also made transcriptions. These were pieces written for other instruments that he changed for the guitar.
