Competition

society Maturity 11-13 Next article →

Competition is a rivalry. It happens when two or more groups want the same goal. If one group wins, the other group loses. This can happen in nature and in human life.

In nature, animals compete to stay alive. They may fight for food, water, or a place to live. Even plants compete for sunlight. This helps scientists study how life changes over time.

Humans compete in many ways too. In business, companies compete for customers. They try to make better products or lower prices. This can help people get more choices. In schools, students may compete for scholarships. This can help some students do their best work. However, too much pressure can be hard for them.

Sometimes, people compete for social status or fame. Others compete in games of luck, like a lotto. Interestingly, people often compete and work together at the same time. It is like two people playing chess. They follow rules and work together to play the game. This mix of working together and competing is very common in our world.
