A community is a group of people. They often share something important. This could be a place, like a town. It could be a belief or a way of life. People can also form communities online.

In nature, scientists use the word differently. An ecological community is a group of living things. These can be many different species. They interact in three main ways. Some compete for things. Some hunt others. Some help each other. This help is called mutualism.

People also learn how to act in a group. This is called socialization. Children often learn these ways from their family. They also learn from schools and friends.

Being in a community can feel very good. It gives people a sense of belonging. This feeling can help people stay healthy. Some studies show that young adults feel better when they belong to a small group. This helps them avoid feeling sad or lonely.
