Memory is the capacity to retain and retrieve information through three distinct stages. The first stage is the input phase, where new information is acquired. The second stage is the storage phase, which preserves information for future use. The final stage is the output phase, where information is retrieved for use in other tasks. Scientists distinguish between different types of memory based on their specific functions.
