This article covers sensitive topics: religion. Parents can manage visibility in Parental Controls.

Long ago, monks lived in special homes. Some leaders tried to help them. They wanted monks to pray more. They also wanted to help the poor.

In a place called Cluny, a man named William started a new home for monks. This was in the year 910. Many leaders helped this group grow. It spread to many lands like France and Italy.

Before this, some leaders took money from the monks. This made the monks very poor. The new rules helped the monks stay independent. This meant they could follow their own ways.

These monks liked art. They used gold and fine cloth in their churches. They also loved music. This made their worship very special.

Many people followed these new ways. It became a very large group in Europe.
