They live in a cleaning symbiosis. This is a way that two animals help each other. The shrimp eat parasites, which are tiny pests, from the fish. This gives the shrimp food. The fish get to stay healthy.

The shrimp also eat mucus and pests from fish wounds. This helps the fish heal and stops infections. It even helps the fish feel less stress.

Many shrimp live together at cleaning stations. These are special spots on the coral reef. Up to 25 shrimp might live in one spot. When a fish swims near, the shrimp do a rocking dance. They move from side to side. They dance more if they are hungry.

One type of shrimp works at night. It cleans fish while they sleep. This helps them avoid other cleaners during the day. People often keep these shrimp in saltwater tanks. They are bright and have pretty colors.
