Ciudad Guayana is a large and busy city in Venezuela. It sits in Bolívar State on a high plain. The city is located where two big rivers meet. The Orinoco River and the Caroní River join together here. The Caroní River flows right through the middle of the city. It divides the city into two main halves. To the east is the old town of San Félix. To the west is the newer area called Puerto Ordaz.

This city is a very important place for making things. It has many large industries for iron, steel, and aluminum. It is also a top shipping location for Venezuela. Ships and barges use the Orinoco River to reach the Atlantic Ocean. The city also makes a lot of electricity from water. These are called hydroelectric power plants. Two of these plants, Macagua and Caruachi, are located inside the city limits. The Guri dam is also nearby and is a very huge power station.

The history of this area goes back a long time. Explorers first looked at these lands in 1531. Many different groups tried to build cities here in the past. Some cities were destroyed by pirates and conquerors. Because of these attacks, the people moved many times. The modern city of Ciudad Guayana was finally founded in 1961. It was created by joining two older settlements together. The city was planned carefully to help it grow quickly.

Today, about one million people live in the city area. You can see many bridges that cross the rivers. There are three bridges over the Caroní River. There is also the Orinoquia Bridge which crosses the Orinoco. This bridge opened in 2006 and is the second largest in the country.
